Why does Manheim require a dealer license to ship a vehicle?
Manheim Pickup, Dealer-to-Dealer Routing, Multi-Car Lanes
Manheim is the largest dealer-only auto auction operator in the U.S. — 70+ locations, dealer-licensed buyers only, and a vehicle mix that's overwhelmingly running, dealer-grade inventory rather than salvage. The buyer is almost always a franchised or independent dealer restocking lots, and the lane is almost always auction → dealer lot or auction → reconditioning facility → dealer lot. Compared to Copart auto transport and IAA salvage runs, Manheim loads are substantially less likely to need winch equipment — but Bold's dispatch still verifies "operational" condition reports against the gate-release before sending an open carrier without backup rigging.
Bold runs Manheim pickups every week. We're set up for the dealer-volume model: multi-car consolidation on common lanes (Manheim Atlanta → Florida dealer corridor, Manheim Pennsylvania → Northeast metro lanes, Manheim Texas Hobby → DFW dealer ring), volume rate cards for franchises running 10+ pickups a month, and EFS/Comdata billing terms for established dealer accounts.
If you're a one-off dealer running a single Manheim pickup, you'll get our standard service with a competitive single-vehicle rate. If you're a recurring buyer, you'll get rate-card pricing that scales with volume — talk to dispatch direct: (469) 942-5444.
How Bold's Manheim Pickup Works
- Win the auction and pay the invoice. Manheim accepts EFS/Comdata, ACH, wire, and certified check from licensed dealer accounts. Most dealers are on terms with their Manheim representative.
- Generate the gate release. In your Manheim.com dealer account: "My Vehicles" → "Won" → select lot → "Gate Pass / Release". Or have your block runner pull it for you. The release lists vehicle, lot number, gate location, and authorized pickup window.
- Quote with Bold. Use our cost calculator with the Manheim location and your dealer/recon facility address. For multi-car loads, contact dispatch direct for consolidated quoting.
- Bold dispatches. Same-week pickup on most U.S. lanes. Manheim's larger locations have predictable gate hours and we know them.
- Yard pickup. Driver presents gate pass and dealer authorization at the gate. Manheim retrieves the vehicle from the lot. Bill of Lading inspection on the spot — driver photographs the vehicle. Standard dealer-grade vehicles have clean BOLs; condition reports from Manheim usually match.
- Door (lot) delivery. Driver delivers to your dealer lot or recon partner facility. BOL signed at delivery.
Manheim Pickup Paperwork Checklist
- Dealer license / dealer ID — Manheim is dealer-only; the gate verifies dealer status
- Paid invoice — Manheim does not release until paid
- Gate pass / release — printed from Manheim.com or via your block representative
- Buyer authorization — your dealer account must list Bold (or the assigned carrier) as authorized to pick up; this is a one-time setup we walk new accounts through
- Title and reassignment — Manheim handles title processing through Manheim Auction Services; titles arrive at your dealership 7–30 days post-purchase
- Lot/run number, VIN, location code — for dispatch routing
Why Multi-Car Consolidation Is the Norm
Manheim dealer buyers typically don't run single-vehicle lanes. The economics work better when 6–10 vehicles from the same auction or nearby auctions move on a single carrier to one or two delivery points. Bold's multi-car consolidation flow:
- Same-day, same-auction loads — one carrier picks up all your wins from a single Manheim location after Wednesday block close
- Regional consolidation — multiple Manheim locations within a few hundred miles can fill a 9-car carrier on a single run (Manheim Pennsylvania + Manheim NJ + Manheim Newburgh)
- Dealer-network routing — for dealer groups with multiple lots, we deliver to each location on a single dispatch (multi-stop carriage)
- Reconditioning facility hop — pickup at Manheim, drop at recon partner, recon partner releases to next carrier — we coordinate the chain when needed
Per-vehicle cost on a fully consolidated 9-car run can drop 15–25% below single-vehicle rates on the same lane.

Most-Run Manheim Locations We Pick Up From
- Manheim Pennsylvania (Manheim, PA) — the original and largest, primarily mid-Atlantic and Northeast routing
- Manheim Atlanta (Atlanta, GA) — heavy Southeast volume, Florida and Carolinas dealer corridor
- Manheim Texas Hobby (Houston, TX) — Texas/Gulf dealer flow, often pairs with Manheim Dallas runs
- Manheim Dallas — DFW dealer ring, North Texas volume
- Manheim Pittsburgh, Manheim Cleveland — Ohio Valley, Appalachian dealer corridor
- Manheim Riverside, Manheim Los Angeles, Manheim Northern California — West Coast dealer flow
- Manheim Orlando, Manheim Tampa, Manheim Florida (statewide) — Florida dealer corridor
- Manheim Newburgh — New York and New England routing
- Manheim Detroit, Manheim Chicago — Midwest dealer flow
Plus 50+ smaller and specialty Manheim locations across the U.S. — we cover them all. Several Manheim locations run dedicated luxury and specialty dealer lanes — Manheim Pennsylvania's high-line block, Manheim Atlanta's exotic and luxury lane, and Manheim California's foreign-car block — where Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Tesla, and the occasional Ferrari or Lamborghini trade-in surface for franchise pre-owned departments. For dealer groups consolidating those high-line wins back to certified pre-owned showrooms, Bold dispatches the same lift-gate and air-ride enclosed equipment we run on our Porsche dealer shipping, Ferrari shipping, Lamborghini transport, and Tesla dealer logistics service lines.
Why Dealers Use Bold for Manheim
- Dealer-grade billing — EFS/Comdata, NET-15 or NET-30 terms for established dealer accounts
- Volume rate cards — published rates by lane for dealers running 10+ pickups/month
- Multi-car consolidation — fully loaded 9-car carriers on consistent corridors
- Same-week dispatch — Manheim Wednesday block closes, vehicles can move by Thursday/Friday
- Driver familiarity — our dispatch team knows every major Manheim location's gate process, so pickup runs smooth
- $0 deductible insurance — no $500 carrier deductible eating into a flip margin
- BOL discipline — clean documentation at pickup AND delivery, so any transit issue is provable against the carrier policy, not your dealer's recon budget
Trade-In and Non-Op Vehicles at Manheim
Although Manheim leans heavily operational, roughly 10–15% of dealer-trade inventory is actually non-running — older trade-ins with mechanical issues, rebuilt-title test cases, and units flagged for engine, transmission, or electrical faults. Manheim's condition reports tag these as "limited mobility" or "non-op" in the lane details. Bold dispatches winch-capable carriers automatically when the gate release indicates a non-runner, so the driver shows up with the right rigging the first time. Typical winch surcharge runs $150–$250 on top of the standard lane rate. Full breakdown of non-op transport pricing, equipment, and lead times on our inoperable vehicle shipping page.
DMS Integration for Dealer Logistics
Bold's dispatch desk integrates with the major Dealer Management Systems (DMS) — including AutoIMS, DealerTrack, and RouteOne — for high-volume dealer accounts that don't want to hand-key every transport order. Bulk pickup lists can be uploaded via secure SFTP or pulled directly through API integration for dealers running 25+ vehicles per month. This eliminates manual transport-order entry for franchise-network buyers, syncs VIN/lot/destination data straight into our dispatch board, and produces consolidated invoicing that maps cleanly back to the buying dealer's accounting system. Talk to dispatch about onboarding your DMS feed — most accounts are live within a few business days.
Can a Dealer Ship a Single Manheim Win?
Yes. While Bold's volume rate cards kick in at 5+ vehicles per month, single-vehicle Manheim pickups are absolutely available for dealers occasionally sourcing inventory from out-of-state lanes. No volume commitment is required, no minimum monthly count, and the same gate-pass workflow applies — dealer license on file, paid invoice, authorized pickup. Pricing matches our standard open or enclosed rates depending on vehicle type and lane distance. One-off Manheim pickups dispatch on the same same-week timeline as our volume accounts.

Dealer Multi-Vehicle Consolidation Case Studies
Manheim's dealer-only flow has different economics than salvage auctions — most pickups happen within 1–3 days because dealer auctions clear faster, so storage-fee tables aren't the operating concern. The recurring win for dealer buyers is per-vehicle cost reduction through consolidation. Two recent Bold case studies show how the math works on real lanes.
Case Study 1: Texas Franchise Group, 8-Vehicle BMW Consolidation
- Setup: Houston-based BMW dealership group sourcing 8 used BMWs from Manheim Pennsylvania (Eastern PA). Standard per-load rate would be 8 × $1,150 = $9,200.
- Bold consolidation: 2 round trips with a 4-car enclosed carrier from Pennsylvania to Houston, $2,200 per trip = $4,400 total ($550 per vehicle, 52% savings).
- Timeline: 8 days from Manheim sale → all 8 vehicles in Houston dealer lot.
- Notes: Bold's coordinator pre-sequenced the load order based on Houston delivery zones to minimize dealer-side handling.
Case Study 2: Florida-to-Arizona Snowbird Franchise, 12-Vehicle Reverse-Seasonal
- Setup: Phoenix Lexus dealership selling 12 used SUVs to a Tampa partner-store at end of summer. Manheim Florida → Phoenix one-way deadhead.
- Bold consolidation: 1 × 6-car open carrier ($4,500) + 1 × 6-car open carrier ($4,500) = $9,000 (vs. $13,800 individual, 35% savings).
- Timeline: 6 business days FL → AZ.
- Notes: Bold matched the load with a return-leg dealer move from Phoenix → Tampa (Phoenix Audi inventory headed to Florida snowbird customers), making the Phoenix → FL leg also profitable for the carrier — passed through to the dealer as additional 4% off.

Manheim Auto Transport FAQs
Dealer billing, volume rates, multi-car consolidation, gate process — answers from a carrier on Manheim lanes every week.
Do I have to be a licensed dealer to use this service?
To buy at Manheim, yes — Manheim is dealer-only and the gate verifies dealer license at pickup. To use Bold for transport, no license is required, but the gate pass authorization will need to come from a Manheim account holder. If you're a non-dealer who somehow bought through a wholesaler proxy, the wholesaler will need to issue the gate pass.
Do you offer dealer billing terms?
Yes. Established dealer accounts get EFS/Comdata acceptance and NET-15 or NET-30 terms. New accounts start on prepay or COD; we move to terms after 60–90 days of consistent business. Talk to dispatch about setup: (469) 942-5444.
Can you consolidate multiple wins on one carrier?
Yes — that's the standard model for Manheim. We can fill a 9-car carrier with vehicles from a single auction, or consolidate multiple nearby Manheim locations on a single dispatch. Per-vehicle rate drops 15–25% on a fully consolidated load. Best for dealer buyers running 6+ pickups same lane same week.
How fast can you dispatch a Manheim pickup?
Same-week is standard. Manheim's main blocks close Wednesday; vehicles are typically on the road by Thursday or Friday. For urgent recon-to-lot turns, we can usually dispatch within 24 hours of payment confirmation. Multi-car consolidation may add a day to align the load.
Do you offer published rate cards?
Yes — for dealers running 10+ pickups per month on consistent lanes, we publish a rate card by lane and vehicle class. New dealer accounts get a custom quote on first 1–2 loads, then we transition to rate-card pricing once the volume profile is established.
What about dealer-to-dealer (non-auction) loads?
Same operating model — see our dealer auto transport page. Most of our dealer customers run a mix of Manheim auction loads, dealer-to-dealer trades, and recon-facility hops. The rate card and billing terms cover all of it.
