How do I ship a car from the USA to the UAE?
The USA-to-UAE Car Shipping Reality
The U.S.-to-UAE auto export market is dominated by two segments: luxury and exotic vehicles bound for Dubai collectors (think AMG, RS, Hellcat, modified pickups, late-model exotics), and U.S. expats and Emirati nationals taking their personal vehicle home. Both flow through the same logistics: door pickup in the U.S., delivery to a U.S. East Coast port, ocean freight to Jebel Ali (the main commercial port for Dubai and the entire UAE).
Bold runs the U.S. domestic leg. We don't book ocean freight, don't broker UAE customs, and don't run the Jebel Ali clearance — your freight forwarder does. What we do: get your Lambo, Hellcat, G-Wagen, or daily driver to the dock at a fair U.S.-domestic rate, with proper insurance and an enclosed-trailer option if the vehicle warrants it.
Branded-title vehicles cannot be imported to the UAE
Dubai RTA does not permit registration of vehicles with branded, salvage, rebuilt, or flood titles. If you're sourcing from Copart or IAA, verify the title is clean before booking transport — branded-title vehicles will be denied entry or seized at Jebel Ali, and Bold cannot override that. Pull a CARFAX or AutoCheck title-history report and confirm a clean U.S. title before we dispatch a carrier.
How USA-to-UAE Shipping Works With Bold
- Forwarder books ocean freight. Major forwarders running the USA→Jebel Ali lane include K Line, Höegh Autoliners, and several Dubai-based agents. Sailing schedule is roughly 2–4 sailings per month from East Coast ports.
- Bold quotes the U.S. domestic leg. Use our cost calculator with origin ZIP and the forwarder's port warehouse address.
- Carrier dispatched. Within 24–72 hours of booking. For exotic and high-value vehicles, we strongly recommend enclosed transport.
- Pickup, inspection, transit. Standard Bill of Lading process. Driver photographs every panel — critical for high-value cars where any port-side damage dispute will rely on this documentation.
- Port delivery. Driver delivers to the warehouse. Forwarder takes possession, files the EEI/AES export filing, and stages for the sailing.
- Ocean transit. Newark/Baltimore to Jebel Ali is approximately 28–35 days via direct service (or 35–45 days transhipping through Mediterranean ports). The longest leg of the move.
- Jebel Ali clearance. Forwarder's UAE partner clears customs, pays the 5% GCC duty and 5% UAE VAT, and arranges delivery to the buyer's address in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Sharjah.
U.S. Ports for UAE-Bound Vehicles
UAE auto exports run almost exclusively from the East Coast. West Coast direct sailings to Jebel Ali exist but are rare for personal-vehicle frequency — most West Coast origins truck across to Newark or Baltimore.
| U.S. Port | UAE Destination | Typical Sailings | Ocean Transit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Newark / Port Elizabeth, NJ | Jebel Ali | 2–3 per month | 28–35 days direct |
| Baltimore, MD | Jebel Ali | 1–2 per month | 30–38 days |
| Charleston, SC | Jebel Ali | Bi-monthly | 32–40 days |
Hot-Climate Vehicle Prep (Recommended)
Dubai summers regularly exceed 110°F (43°C), and surface temps in Jebel Ali parking yards can hit 150°F+. While Bold's U.S. domestic leg is just standard transport, your vehicle is going to a much harsher climate. A few things worth doing on the U.S. side before shipment:
- Coolant flush — Make sure coolant is fresh and at the correct mix. UAE service centers often charge premium prices for fluid services.
- Battery check — Heat kills batteries. Don't ship a marginal battery; replace it before shipping.
- Window tint — UAE allows up to 30% tint front, 50% rear. U.S.-tinted vehicles arrive ready for the climate.
- Tire condition — High summer surface temps blow weak tires. Ship with at least 5/32" tread.
- Empty the tank to a quarter — required for ocean freight anyway.
- Disable any toll tags / SunPass / EZPass that won't work in UAE.
Bold doesn't perform mechanical work — these are owner prep items before the carrier arrives.
Pricing — U.S. Domestic Leg
Standard U.S. open-carrier or enclosed pricing. No "international" surcharge. Most luxury exports use enclosed transport, which is 35–45% above the open rates below.

|---|---|---|---|
| Boston, MA | Newark, NJ | 225 mi | $475–$650 |

UAE Import Duty, VAT, and Registration — Reality Check
Bold is not a UAE customs broker. Numbers below are general guidance circa 2025–2026. For authoritative info, see Dubai Customs and UAE Federal Tax Authority.
- GCC import duty: 5% on vehicle CIF value (cost + insurance + freight).
- UAE VAT: 5% on (CIF + duty).
- Registration: Through the RTA in Dubai or the relevant Emirate's Traffic Department. Vehicle must pass a technical inspection (similar to U.S. emissions/safety inspection). U.S.-spec vehicles generally pass with no modification — UAE is one of the few markets where U.S.-spec cars are widely registered as-is.
- UAE personal use rule: The UAE allows individuals to import a vehicle they've owned for personal use. Commercial importers (dealers reselling) face a different duty regime and require a UAE trade license.
- Right-hand drive: UAE drives on the right and accepts left-hand drive (LHD) vehicles. No conversion needed for U.S.-spec cars.

My story starts in Los Angeles, Mechanic says I was good to go on an across country move. Car packed up and I set out on the road. Welp I'm writing this review because about 10 miles south of Beaver Utah my check engine light came on and my car started smoking…
I highly recommend Bold Auto Transport to anyone looking for affordable car shipping service. I got a great price transporting my car to New Jersey. Communication was very effective and they show up on time. Great guys. I’ll use you again.
USA to UAE Shipping FAQs
From Dubai collectors and Emirati nationals we've moved vehicles for.
Do you ship cars all the way to Dubai?
No. Bold runs the U.S. domestic leg only — your driveway to a U.S. East Coast port. Your freight forwarder handles ocean freight to Jebel Ali, UAE customs clearance, and final delivery in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Sharjah. Most reputable forwarders have established relationships with UAE customs agents.
Can a U.S.-spec car be registered in the UAE?
Yes — UAE is one of the few major markets that openly accepts U.S.-spec vehicles for personal registration. The technical inspection focuses on safety basics (lights, brakes, tires, emissions). U.S.-built cars typically pass without modification. Right-hand drive is not required; UAE drives on the right.
Should I use enclosed transport on the U.S. leg?
For any high-value vehicle (over $50K), exotic, classic, or modified car — yes. Most UAE-bound luxury shipments use enclosed transport on the U.S. side because the vehicle's resale or personal value justifies the 35–45% premium. For a daily-driver F-150 going home with an expat, open is fine.
How long is the total USA-to-UAE transit?
Typically 6–10 weeks total: 3–10 days U.S. domestic (Bold), 1–2 weeks at port waiting for sailing, 28–38 days ocean transit, then 1–2 weeks for UAE customs and registration. The ocean leg is the long part — UAE is twice the distance to Europe.
What about hot-climate prep?
Bold doesn't perform mechanical service, but we recommend customers do a coolant flush, battery check, and tint installation in the U.S. before shipment. Dubai summer heat is brutal — a marginal battery or weak tires that survive U.S. winters won't survive a Dubai July. Service in the UAE is good but expensive.
Do you handle the UAE customs side?
No. UAE customs clearance, the 5% duty, the 5% VAT, the technical inspection, and RTA registration are all your forwarder's responsibility (or their UAE partner's). We're transparent about scope so the right party is on the hook for each step.
