PCS Timing Strategy for Fort Bliss

Gate Access at Fort Bliss

You don't need a base pass to ship a vehicle with Bold — most pickups happen off-post. For on-post family housing pickups:

• Buffalo Soldier Gate (Sergeant Major Blvd) is the primary visitor entry, with the Visitor Control Center nearby for non-DoD ID processing.
• Cassidy Gate and Old Ironsides Gate serve specific housing areas and units.
• Carrier drivers without DoD credentials are typically sponsored by an active-duty member or routed through the visitor center. Most Bold carriers prefer off-post pickup at a commercial cross-street.
• Off-post pickup zones we use most: Northeast El Paso (Dyer Street commercial strip), Cielo Vista Mall area, Horizon City off I-10, and Las Cruces / I-25 commercial intersections for north-bound carriers.

Fort Bliss service members PCS-ing OCONUS ship POVs through the DoD's Vehicle Processing Center network (currently IAL). Closest VPCs:

• Long Beach, CA — Japan, Korea, Hawaii, Pacific destinations (~825 mi from El Paso)
• Tacoma, WA — Korea-bound POVs (~1,650 mi)
• Baltimore, MD — Europe-bound POVs (~2,000 mi)
• Houston, TX — secondary option for some Pacific routes (~750 mi)

What Bold handles vs. what TMO handles:

• What TMO/VPC handles: Free POV ocean shipment from U.S. port to your overseas duty station.
• What Bold handles: The CONUS leg from El Paso to the VPC if you can't drive it yourself, or the second-vehicle shipment to a stateside storage destination.
• Second vehicle: The DoD covers one POV. A second car ships via Bold to a relative's address or storage destination.
• Returning OCONUS to CONUS: When your POV lands back at a U.S. VPC, Bold picks up at the port and delivers anywhere in the lower 48.

What to Expect — Pickup and Delivery

Driver calls 24 hours ahead with a 2-hour pickup window, again 30–60 minutes before arrival. Wash vehicle, reduce fuel to a quarter tank, remove personal items above trunk-floor level, have keys and photo ID ready.

Inspection in front of you — driver completes a Bill of Lading (BOL), marks pre-existing damage, takes photos. Sign the BOL. Take your own timestamped photos.

At delivery, walk the vehicle with the driver, compare to the BOL, sign. Note any discrepancy before signing. Carrier balance is paid on delivery in cash, certified check, or money order.
