PCS Timing Strategy for Camp Pendleton

• Pacific OCONUS PCS: Long Beach VPC is a short hop (~85 mi from Pendleton). For Okinawa, Iwakuni, mainland Japan, and Hawaii POVs, the Pendleton → Long Beach VPC leg is straightforward and inexpensive.
• Reverse-direction Lejeune to Pendleton: If your spouse is PCS-ing while you're already on station, schedule pickup as soon as orders are amended. Westbound lanes book up first.

Gate Access at Camp Pendleton

You don't need a base pass to ship a vehicle with Bold — most pickups happen off-base. For on-base family housing pickups:

• Main Gate (I-5 / Camp Pendleton Exit) is the primary visitor entry, with the Visitor Center immediately adjacent for non-DoD ID holders.
• San Onofre Gate, Las Pulgas Gate, and Vandegrift Gate serve specific housing areas and units.

Marines PCS-ing to Pacific destinations ship POVs through the DoD's Vehicle Processing Center network (currently IAL). For Camp Pendleton Marines, the closest VPC is:

• Long Beach, CA — primary West Coast VPC for Okinawa, mainland Japan, MCAS Iwakuni, MCB Hawaii (Kaneohe Bay). Roughly 85 miles up I-5.
• Tacoma, WA — Korea-bound POVs and some Pacific destinations

What to Expect — Pickup and Delivery

Driver calls 24 hours ahead with a 2-hour pickup window, again 30–60 minutes before arrival. Wash vehicle, reduce fuel to a quarter tank, remove personal items above trunk-floor level, have keys and photo ID ready.

Inspection in front of you — driver completes a Bill of Lading (BOL), marks pre-existing damage, takes photos. You sign the BOL. Take your own timestamped photos as backup. The BOL is the legal record for any insurance claim.

At delivery, walk the vehicle with the driver, compare to the BOL, sign. Note any discrepancy before signing. Carrier balance is paid on delivery in cash, certified check, or money order — confirmed by your coordinator 48 hours before delivery.
