Fort Cavazos PCS Auto Transport — Built for Big-Army Moves
Fort Cavazos (renamed from Fort Hood in May 2023) is the largest active-duty armored installation in the United States and home to III Armored Corps and the 1st Cavalry Division. Between Korea rotations, Germany cycles, and steady CONUS reassignments to Fort Liberty, Fort Stewart, and Fort Carson, the volume of vehicles moving through Killeen during PCS season is one of the highest in the country.
Bold Auto Transport runs door-to-door CONUS shipping for Fort Cavazos families. We pick up at on-post family housing on West Fort Hood, Comanche, or Pershing Park, or at off-post addresses anywhere in Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Belton, or Temple — and deliver to the driveway of your next duty station.
Every active duty, veteran, reservist, National Guard, and dependent shipment includes our military discount, $0 deductible insurance, and a single coordinator who keeps your timeline in mind when orders shift.
Popular PCS Lanes from Fort Cavazos
The lanes below are the most active PCS routes we run out of Killeen. Prices are real averages for standard sedans and SUVs in operable condition. Full-size trucks and three-row SUVs typically run 10–15% higher. The military discount is applied at booking — call (469) 942-5444 or quote online.

Texas-origin lanes generally have stronger carrier supply than Texas-destination lanes, so outbound pricing from Fort Cavazos tends to be slightly more favorable than the reverse direction.
PCS Timing Strategy for Fort Cavazos
Fort Cavazos PCS volume peaks May through August, with rotational unit moves piling on top of standard summer PCS season. The Texas heat compounds the booking pressure — carriers slow down in the Hill Country in July, and a tight pickup window inside summer months can stretch by 2–3 days.
- 4+ weeks out: Best pricing and pickup flexibility. Recommended for cross-country moves and any PCS during May–August.
- 2–3 weeks out: Most Fort Cavazos PCS shipments book in this window. Solid availability on virtually all lanes.
- Inside 7 days: Possible on regional lanes (TX → CO, TX → NM, TX → LA). Cross-country expedites add a 25–40% premium.
- Korea / Japan PCS through JBLM: Tacoma is the West Coast VPC for Korea-bound POVs. Schedule pickup so the vehicle lands at the VPC 5–7 business days before turn-in.
- Germany / Italy PCS: Baltimore is the standard East Coast VPC. Bold runs Killeen → Baltimore at roughly $1,000–$1,200.
Gate Access at Fort Cavazos
You don't need a base pass to ship a vehicle with Bold — most pickups happen at off-post addresses. But for on-post family housing pickups, here's how access works at Cavazos:
- Marvin Leath Gate (the main gate on US-190) is the primary visitor entry. The Visitor Control Center is co-located there.
- Clear Creek Gate and Clarke Road Gate handle additional traffic flow during PCS season.
- Carrier drivers without DoD credentials are typically sponsored by an active-duty member or routed through the visitor center. Most Bold carriers prefer off-post pickup at a commercial cross-street to avoid 30 minutes of gate process per vehicle.
- Off-post pickup zones we use most: Killeen Mall area, Harker Heights HEB, Stillhouse Lake Rd commercial strip, Copperas Cove Walmart, Belton I-14 truck stops.
If on-post pickup at family housing is required, your coordinator will coordinate sponsor sign-in before dispatch.
Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) Handoff for OCONUS PCS
For Fort Cavazos service members heading to Germany, Korea, Italy, or Japan, the military covers POV shipping to the OCONUS port through the Vehicle Processing Center network (IAL under DoD contract). Closest VPCs:
- Baltimore, MD — Europe-bound POVs (Germany, Italy, UK)
- Tacoma, WA — Korea-bound POVs
- Long Beach, CA — Japan, Hawaii, Pacific destinations
- Houston, TX — closer secondary option for some Pacific routes; check eligibility with your TMO
Bold doesn't replace the VPC — we complement it:
- What TMO/VPC handles: Free POV shipment from U.S. port to your overseas duty station. You drive your vehicle to the VPC and turn it in.
- What Bold handles: The CONUS leg from Killeen to the VPC if you can't drive it yourself. Common case: you're flying out before the VPC turn-in window, your spouse already left with the kids, or you're shipping a second family vehicle.
- Second vehicle: The DoD covers one POV. A second car (spouse's vehicle, family vehicle) goes to a CONUS storage destination with Bold — parents' driveway, garage of a relative, anywhere in the lower 48.
- Returning OCONUS to CONUS: When your POV arrives back at a U.S. VPC, Bold picks up at the port and delivers anywhere in the lower 48. Military discount applies to this domestic leg.
Real PCS Scenarios from Fort Cavazos
Korea Rotation (Camp Humphreys / 2nd ID)
The 1st Cav rotates regularly to Korea. Bold's Fort Cavazos → Tacoma VPC lane runs about $1,075–$1,275 with the military discount. If you have an unaccompanied tour and you're storing your second vehicle stateside, we'll deliver it to a designated relative anywhere in the U.S.
PCS to Germany (Vilseck, Wiesbaden, Grafenwoehr)
You drop one POV at Baltimore VPC for free overseas shipment (Bold's Killeen → Baltimore lane is about $1,000–$1,200). The second family vehicle goes to your in-laws or storage destination on a separate Bold shipment.
CONUS PCS to Fort Liberty
Heaviest single CONUS lane out of Cavazos. About 1,250 miles, 4–7 days transit, $795–$975 with the military discount. We handle the door-to-door so you don't burn 4 days of leave driving.
ETS Separation in Texas
Out-processing and staying in Texas — moving to Austin, San Antonio, or Houston? We can pick up the day after your final out-processing appointment and deliver the same day or next.
Bold's Military Discount Applies on Every Order
Every Bold shipment for active duty, veterans, reservists, National Guard, or dependents includes our military discount. No promo code needed — just mention your branch and status at booking. The discount stacks with multi-vehicle pricing, so two cars on the same lane both get the military rate.
For pricing on standard open carrier or enclosed transport, those rates apply with the military discount layered on top.
What to Expect — Pickup and Delivery
The driver calls 24 hours ahead with a 2-hour pickup window, and again 30–60 minutes before arrival. Wash the vehicle, reduce fuel to a quarter tank, remove personal items above trunk-floor level, and have your keys plus a photo ID ready.
Inspection happens in front of you — the Bill of Lading (BOL) documents pre-existing damage. Sign the BOL, take your own timestamped photos as backup. At delivery, walk the vehicle with the driver, compare to the BOL, and sign. Note any discrepancy before signing — that's the legal basis for any claim.
Carrier balance is paid on delivery in cash, certified check, or money order. Your coordinator confirms the amount 48 hours before delivery.
